After an extensive search, the London District Catholic School Board (LDCSB) is pleased to announce the appointment of Vince Romeo as the new Director of Education and Secretary to the Board, effective August 1, 2021.
“Over his years with our Board, Vince has the requisite background and has demonstrated all of the qualities and skills we were seeking for our next Director of Education,” said Linda Steel, Chair of the Board of Trustees. “His range of experiences at both the board level and at the Ministry of Education will serve him well in his new position. We are confident in his leadership abilities, commitment to Catholic education and excited by his clear vision to attain excellence. Our school board is strong and thriving. Building on the solid foundation Linda Staudt helped establish, we are looking for Vince to lead us on the next steps of our exciting future.”
“I am extremely grateful and humbled to be appointed as the next Director of Education for the London District Catholic School Board,” said Vince Romeo. “I am excited about the opportunity to work with our dedicated trustees, staff, parents, local diocese, and community partners in serving our students. Together we will ensure the LDCSB builds upon our well-established reputation as an innovative leader in Catholic education. We will continue to ensure our schools remain faith-filled, welcoming, inclusive, predictable and safe learning spaces for students.”
Vince Romeo is a graduate of John Paul II Catholic Secondary School in London. He started his teaching career with the LDCSB in 2002, and has served communities in Middlesex, Elgin, and Oxford counties, as well as the city of London, in the role of teacher, vice-principal, and principal.
From 2014-16 he served with the Ministry of Education in the position of Student Achievement Officer, supporting Public and Catholic school districts in Waterloo, Brantford, Hamilton, and Niagara. In 2016, he was appointed Superintendent of Education and has served in that role since.
Vince Romeo succeeds Linda Staudt, who is retiring after 36 years in education, the last 8 as Director of Education for the LDCSB. The Board of Trustees would like to acknowledge Linda’s contributions to the success of the LDCSB over the past 8 years, including eliminating a $6 million operating deficit, increasing enrollment from 18,000 to 22,000 students, the opening of two new schools with three more in the works, and she was instrumental in the LDCSB being named as one of Canada’s 100 Best Employers. The LDCSB has been blessed with her humble, effective, caring Catholic leadership – and we are grateful.
The LDCSB serves 22,000 students in 43 elementary and 9 secondary schools. These schools provide a full range of education experiences from Junior Kindergarten through to the completion of secondary school in the counties of Middlesex, Oxford and Elgin, including the cities of London, St. Thomas, Strathroy and Woodstock. Continuing Education for adult learners is also available.
